Service Instructions
See Summary
1. Push the thermostat valve off its seat and place a short length of cotton between the valve and seat. Release the valve so that the cotton is secured.
2. Secure a slightly longer length of cotton to the top of the thermostat.
Note:
The coolant used should be a 50% coolant and 50% water mix to enable a wider range of temperatures to be achieved.
3. Suspend the thermostat in a container of coolant having secured it:-
1 With the longer length of cotton.
2 With the short length of cotton.
4. Gradually heat the coolant, freqently checking the coolant temperature with a thermometer.
5. When the short length of cotton is released the thermostat valve has opened. If this break-open temperature is not between 87єC and 90єC the thermostat should be renewed.
6. Continue to heat the water and ensure that the thermostat valve continues to open fully and without seizing. Once the thermostat valve has lifted 6mm off its seat the test is complete. Renew the thermostat if this fails to happen.
